How it looks like
Saturdays with your Taiwanese teacher
Week 1: Sound & Social Register
Forget about the mainland accent and textbook phrases. Learn Taiwan-style pronunciation plus the sentence-final particles that locals use every day. Practice addressing shop owners, strangers, and classmates naturally, through live guided roleplay.
Week 2: Everyday Vocabulary & Local Slang
Build the vocabulary that actually gets used in Taiwan, from 捷運 and 腳踏車 to current youth slang and swear words. Understand the influence of Hokkien and Japanese on modern Taiwanese Mandarin.
Week 3: Real-World Survival in a Night Market & Beyond
Put it all together. Go for a stroll at the night market and choose your favorite Taiwanese dish. Make an order, customize it and choose a payment method, all in a live simulated roleplay that pulls together everything from the first two weeks.
Sundays with specialist instructors
Introduction to Zhuyin (Bopomofo)
Get started with Taiwan's native phonetic system — symbols, tone marks, and how it compares to Pinyin — so you can begin reading and typing the way locals do.
From Simplified to Traditional Characters
Learn the logic behind Traditional characters and practical strategies for reading and writing them, even if you're coming from a Simplified-only background.
Taiwanese Business Culture
Understand workplace etiquette and cultural expectations for doing business in Taiwan from a practical point of view.
